The Temple of Heaven

As we entered into the gardens of the Temple of Heaven, we saw this common sight. Many retirees entertaining themselves. Here, about 100 people dancing to music. I cajoled Shann into dancing with me as well. See? Blending.

Of course, we wouldn't blended a little better had we known the dance.

Then we came upon people moving together with swords. We didn't try this one.

Then women dancing with ribbons.

We walked down this long corridor towards the temple area, and there were people playing cards, selling things, and doing terrible karaoke.

This couple was doing sort of a belly dance...they are from a smaller sect - maybe mongolian. We weren't sure.

Another pair of impressive eyebrows...Teresa told us it is a sign of longevity, so old men don't trim them. Who knew?

THE temple. This is the temple where emporers (maybe more than 1000 years ago), actually sacrificed to God. Before Buddhism was rampant. So this is a neat place to see in China. See us on the stairs?

Here, you can see replicas of calves waiting to be sacrificed.
Constructed without nails. All dove-tail.

Just a 500 year old cyprus. We don't see many of these here in the new USA.

You can sort of see a walkway up the middle of this path. This was for God alone. The emporer walked on the righthand side. At some point, an emporer decided that sacrificing calves was sort of a dirty job, and had a priest do it for him. According to a book my Dad read, this started the decline of reverance for the one true God.

I wonder how God feels about this place now.
